SOMES CIRCLE MINISTRIES TO CHILDREN AND YOUTH

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES: Most village churches have no facilities for children’s Sunday school classes. We are hoping to help them, as they develop children’s ministries appropriate to their setting.

Bible Schools: In the summer of 2000, we held one-day Bible schools in two villages with enough success to encourage us to try to do more. Volunteer teachers and visual aids could help them improve their children’s ministries.

Volunteers: Experienced teachers will go to Romania to teach for a week or more. Local English-speaking volunteers will serve as interpreters while being trained in use of the materials. The materials will then be left there for the newly trained teachers to use in the village churches.

Travel Cost per Volunteer . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $1,000.00

Visual Aids: Flannelgraph works well and is easily adaptable to the setting. Last summer, we left a complete flannelgraph set with a village children’s worker. She now uses it to teach both in the church and in the public school.

Flannelgraph set (Luckens) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $100.00

Aluminum Easel: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$30.00

YOUTH WORK: Village churches rely on volunteers for youth leadership, so it is important for them to have materials to guide their development of a youth program. One of the missioners that we help support has developed as a leader in this area of ministry. Here are three ministries that we want to support.

AWANA: AWANA is a program developed in this country that has met with wonderful success in Romania. Through this ministry, some village churches have more children in AWANA than members in their churches.

Camping: Camps like we have in America are very few in Romania—and quite expensive. Near most villages, however, land is available for camping with Tents. A few tents and sleeping bags would make it possible to have a camping program—a great way to disciple village youth.

Tents (to sleep 6): . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $100.00

Sleeping Bags: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $20.00

Mattresses (for adult leaders): . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$ 10.00

Computer Café: E-mail is all the rage in Romania, but available to very few because of cost. Using the same computers and software mentioned in the Concordance Project (see Leadership Training), we want to make low-cost E-mail available to youth. We will also offer Bible studies, whereby youth could "pay" for their E-mail service by successfully completing a Bible study from time to time.

Director’s Salary and Internet fees, per Month (estimated) . . . . . $200.00
