Elpis
Foundation was started for the purpose of supporting the work of
Somes Missionary Circle
. Although it exists as
a separate legal entity, and is the legally recognized agency through our social
work is done, it’s only purpose for being is to help with the world Christian
mission enterprise.
Beginning
with the needs of local churches in the Somes region, as needs in other areas
became known, Elpis has responded to those needs as God has provided the means.
Among the earliest projects of Elpis was
transportation for pastors and teachers among the village churches in the
region. We began by supplying gas for people who would transport pastors, but in
2000 American friends gave the funds for the first of three cars.
Since receiving this car, pastors, teachers
and volunteers have been transported all over the area, assuring that each
church will have a preacher each week. In addition, thousands of pounds of food
and clothing have been taken to homes and institutions all over
Romania
. On one occasion,
lecturers were taken to teach in a new Bible institute in
Ukraine
. This is the same car
that has been the primary transportation for the Elpis Kindergarten. It has been
a blessing, but it needs to be replaced with a van.
Bibles
and other Christian literature are included in boxes with clothing and food
distributed by Elpis. Larger numbers of Bibles have also been given to
organizations and churches for new believers and for evangelism. We want
everyone to know that even the social ministries we carry out we do through and
for Jesus Christ. One goal of Elpis is to use every means possible –
especially in villages where there are no evangelical churches – to open doors
for the Gospel.
Elpis has also helped with a number of
building projects for village churches. Elpis has also provided many pews,
musical instruments, sound systems and other furnishings for these
churches.

These men are
helping Pastor Cornel Fedor lay the first block on the foundation of the new
church building at Vale, September 2002.
Another particular interest of Elpis
Foundation has been programs for children and youth. Elpis gave game supplies
for AWANA meetings and tents and sleeping bags for camping. These boys slept in
the first tents provided through Elpis -- twelve boys in a six-man tent! This
year, God provided 200 sleeping bags and 37 eight-man tents for the camping
programs. Besides hundreds of youth in regular camps, more than 1,000 Somes area
village children were also reached through day camps.
Please pray
