Elpis takes as its name the Greek word for "hope". Elpis Foundation is the
arm of the Somes Missionary Circle that is incorporated as a non-profit social service
organization, and is legally recognized by the Romanian government. We help them in many
ways and they, in turn, carry out many ministries for us, such as distributing food,
clothing and medicines to the poor.
Elpis operates an agricultural project, which grows much of the food that they
distribute. It also serves as an agency through which village churches can send food and
provisions to Bible schools and seminaries.
Transportation: The car we provided is registered in the name of Elpis, and is
used by this group at times for transport of food, clothing and medicines for the poor.
Fuel costs are born by the group using the car at the time.
Office and Storage Space: The Mayor of Dej has made it possible for Elpis and
Somes to rent space in a city-owned building at a very low rate. This is the space we
would like to use to set up our Computer Café. In order to do that, we will need a
de-humidifier for the office portion.

Kindergarten: As in America, public schools often do not provide the best
educational opportunity for children. Elpis has started a private kindergarten, which they
hope will eventually become a Christian school. The school meets in a city-owned apartment
(again, courtesy of the Mayor) which the city will sell for the price of only $500.00. The
price is so low because Elpis will have to install complete heating system.

Agricultural Project: Elpis has purchased a tractor and a tract of land to raise
food to be distributed to the poor. The storage space mentioned above is used to store
potatoes and other produce from their land. This project will also be used to test the
vehicle we want to develop, and new crops for the area. The greatest expenses related to
this project are fuel and maintenance for the tractor, and salary for the driver.
